The last WordCamp I spoke at was WordCamp Seattle right before COVID hit. Prior to that I had taken a retirement on speaking at WordCamps to make way for new voices. WordCamp Seattle brought we out of retirement, and guess what? It’s happened again.
20 Years. That’s a Lot of Community
So as we were getting ready to move to Porto, Portugal, earlier I was delighted to see that I would be there in time for WordCamp Lisboa. That was followed by a little prodding from someone on the organizing team that maybe I should apply to speak. Now how was I suppose to say no to speaking in my new homeland.
One thing led to another, and in lieu of WordPress 20th birthday, I chose to talk about community, something I love and am part of it every day. I was accepted and it was announced.
I am excited for this event. This is a special one for me. As both Judy and I immerse ourselves into the culture here, I will also immerse myself into the local community as much as I can. And yes, they are letting me do my talk in English as my Portuguese has a long way to go.
The event is May 19 and 20, with the 19th being contributors day. They have already announced 3 rounds of speakers, and I’m honored to be amongst some many great voices. And of course, there are still tickets available here.
And if you are going to be there, let’s make sure and connect. See you there!
